Gastroenterology Infusion Therapy Overview
Infusion therapy (IV therapy) is the delivery of medication through a person’s vein. This method of receiving medication is common among gastrointestinal patients as many of the latest GI medications are biologic (made from living cells) and are not effective if taken orally. Those with GI disorders or iron deficiencies may already have trouble with their digestive system absorbing nutrients, so certain medications are better processed when given by IV.
