Medical Weight Loss

Hattiesburg Clinic provides a comprehensive approach to weight loss, including weight loss medications, nutrition counseling, diet and exercise recommendations and more.

Medical Weight Loss Overview

At Hattiesburg Clinic, we offer personalized guidance, support and medical oversight to help you achieve your weight loss goals and improve your health. We believe obesity is more than aesthetics and treat it as a chronic condition as obesity significantly increases the risk of premature death due to related health complications. Hattiesburg Clinic is the only weight loss team in Mississippi that is obesity-certified and trained to treat you medically. Unlike quick fixes, our medical weight loss practice focuses on long-term success by addressing the underlying factors contributing to obesity and weight gain.

A Comprehensive Approach

The medical weight loss program at Hattiesburg Clinic addresses the complex interplay of physical, behavioral and environmental factors influencing weight. We take into account your medical history, lifestyle and personal goals to create a plan that works for you. With the ongoing supervision of a full medical team, our personalized treatment plans provide evidence of progress and encourage continued adherence to lifestyle changes and recommendations.

Services Offered

Our medical weight loss programs offer a comprehensive and evidence-based approach to weight loss. Through a range of services, we address the underlying factors contributing to obesity to help you achieve sustainable weight loss and improved health.

  • Blood work and body composition analysis of fat and muscle mass to assess overall health, identify risk factors, monitor progress and customize treatment plans
  • Hattiesburg’s only registered dietician to provide personalized dietary recommendations and meal planning strategies
  • Creation of exercise programs tailored to individual fitness levels, preferences and existing medical conditions
  • Counseling with our psychologists to help address underlying behaviors and emotions surrounding weight
  • Weight loss medications are prescribed in addition to a comprehensive plan to promote long-term success
  • Long-term post-surgical assistance after bariatric surgery

Weight Loss Medications

Weight loss medications have improved dramatically in both efficiency and safety. We prescribe a variety of FDA-approved weight loss medications to be used in conjunction with lifestyle changes and medical supervision. The medications we prescribe are:

  • Adipex and Diethylpropion: Appetite suppressants that stimulate the nervous system to decrease appetite. Adipex and Diethylpropion are taken orally and dosing is adjusted to an individual’s eating patterns.
  • Contrave: This medication targets the brain’s reward system to control cravings and reduce hunger. Contrave is taken orally, progressively increasing the dosage until you reach your target dose.
  • Qsymia: Combining an appetite suppressant and a migraine medication, Qsymia helps reduce your appetite and promote fullness. Qsymia is taken orally once per day.
  • Phendimetrazine: Similar to Adipex and Diethylporpion, Phendimetrazine suppresses appetite by stimulating the central nervous system, making it easier to follow a calorie-controlled diet. It is an oral medication, taken once per day.
  • Saxenda (liraglutide) and Wegovy (semaglutide): Popular GLP-1 inhibitors, these medications slow stomach emptying, thus reducing hunger and helping you consume fewer calories. They also affect the gut-brain interaction, which alters cravings. Wegovy is a once-per-week injection, while Saxenda is once per day.
  • Vyvanse: A stimulant medication approved for binge eating disorders, by affecting neurotransmitters in the brain. Vyvanse is taken once per day.
  • Zepbound: Similar to Wegovy, Zepbound tackles GLP-1 and GIP hormones to reduce appetite. It is taken as a once-per-week injection.

Why should I consider medical weight loss?

  • If you have tried traditional diet and exercise but have not had the success you have wanted
  • If you have additional obesity-related health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension or sleep apnea
  • If you need to lose weight before having other medical procedures (such as knee replacement or AFIB ablation)
  • If there is a metabolic or hormonal imbalance affecting your weight loss
  • If psychological barriers are impeding your weight loss efforts
  • If you want a structured and supervised approach from medical experts

Our medical weight loss program provides you with the tools, support and medical expertise you need to help you lose weight, improve your health and transform your quality of life.
