Helping our community to ease the impact of Alzheimer’s
Hattiesburg Clinic is proud to once again sponsor the seventh annual disentangleAD Caregiver’s Conference. This year’s conference will be hosted at Parkway Heights United Methodist Church, located at 2420 Hardy Street, in Hattiesburg. The conference will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
disentangleAD is a non-profit organization that supports the care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease in South Mississippi. In addition to providing additional funding through financial grants for caregivers of patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementia syndromes, disentangleAD serves as an educational resource for caregivers. The organization was founded by Ronald L. Schwartz, MD, CPI, a physician with Hattiesburg Clinic Neurology and Hattiesburg Clinic Memory Center.
“At disentangleAD, we believe that education and support are the cornerstones of effective Alzheimer’s care. This conference is a platform for sharing innovative strategies and tools so that individual care partners and professional caregivers are equipped with the knowledge and resources they need to provide the best possible care,” Dr. Schwartz said.
Schwartz is one of the featured speakers at the Caregiver Conference, along with Melora Jackson, Director of Clinical Services for Second Wind Dreams®, which is a nonprofit that aims to increase sensitivity towards those with dementia.
This year’s conference will be broken into three two-hour sessions held at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Caregivers and other attendees must register for a specific timeslot. Each session will include Alzheimer’s disease education and community resource information.
New to the conference this year is the Virtual Dementia Tour®, an educational program developed by Second Wind Dreams. The tour provides a hands-on event that allows caregivers to more directly feel how Alzheimer’s impacts an individual’s ability to interact with their environment.
“If you are a caregiver for someone with Alzheimer’s disease, we hope to see you at this conference,” Schwartz said. “By coming together, we can share knowledge, support one another and work towards a brighter future for those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.”
