Meet Jana Carter with Obstetrics & Gynecology

Jana Carter has been a friendly and familiar face at Hattiesburg Clinic Obstetrics & Gynecology since June 2015. Originally from Richton, Miss., where she graduated high school, Jana relocated to Hattiesburg and started working for Hattiesburg Clinic. For nearly a decade, Jana has served as the front desk receptionist, ensuring every patient’s experience is both welcoming and efficient. As the first point of contact for many, she greets patients, checks them in, schedules appointments and assists her coworkers whenever needed.

When asked what she enjoys most about working in her department, Jana said, “I truly cherish the sense of family among our staff. The camaraderie here is exceptional, and our doctors are nothing short of amazing. From management on down, we have cultivated a fun and supportive environment that makes it a joy to come to work every day.”

Jana’s passion for her role is evident, especially when she speaks about the patients she interacts with daily. “I absolutely love working at the front desk. It’s incredibly rewarding to get to know patients as they come in for their first prenatal visit and to be part of their journey into motherhood. The best part is when they bring their newborns back in to see us. Witnessing their joy and being a small part of such a significant chapter in their lives is truly heartwarming.”

Outside of work, Jana has a fun and adventurous spirit. She enjoys spontaneous travel with her sister, Meka, often planning trips at the last minute and discovering new destinations together. Some of their favorite trips include visits to Mexico City, Amsterdam and Dublin. When she is not traveling, she is working toward a personal goal of learning Spanish, with aspirations of becoming fluent in multiple languages.

Jana’s love for her family is evident in everything she does. She is very close with her brother Jason, sisters Nett and Meka, and her mother, and fondly describes her late father as her “guardian angel.” Jana also cherishes her time with her boyfriend, DJ, and takes great pride in supporting her niece, Kalyjai, who is in her senior year of high school.

Jana lives by her favorite quote from Maya Angelou: “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” This perfectly encapsulates the kindness and warmth she brings to the clinic every day.

As we spotlight Jana, we are grateful for the positivity and care she has shown to both patients and colleagues. Thank you, Jana, for being such a valued member of our team.
