What is the difference between urgent care and the ER?
Urgent care clinics traditionally treat non-life-threatening injuries or illnesses, such as earaches, small cuts or allergy rashes. Contrarily, emergency rooms provide critical care for conditions including severe chest pain, fractures and anaphylactic reactions.
At Hattiesburg Clinic, our approach redefines the traditional definition of urgent care. Our providers have the training and resources to treat more complex conditions – such as dehydration, chest pain or severe migraines – that many other clinics might refer to the ER.
Some of the on-site resources include:
- EKG (electrocardiogram) for evaluating heart-related symptoms such as chest pain or irregular heartbeat
- X-rays to assess fractures, respiratory issues and other minor concerns
- Advanced imaging for detailed scans of more complex medical issues
- Laboratory services for rapid testing of infections and bloodwork to provide answers in a timely fashion
By having these comprehensive diagnostic tools in-house, our board-certified doctors and advanced practice providers can diagnose and treat conditions efficiently, offering you the convenience of urgent care with the capabilities traditionally found in a hospital emergency room.
