Meet Derek Burchfield, EpicCare Clinical Analyst
Derek Burchfield started at Hattiesburg Clinic Endocrinology five years ago as a licensed practical nurse before transferring to the Epic team as a clinical analyst and has recently been promoted to his current position as a senior clinical analyst. His responsibilities include analyzing clinical data with health care professionals to improve workflows and providing training to ensure effective system usage. Whether implementing new applications, troubleshooting issues or conducting on-site visits for training, Burchfield’s expertise helps accomplish the clinic’s mission of providing high-quality, patient-centered health care.
Burchfield enjoys the strong sense of camaraderie among his colleagues and describes the EpicCare team as a family that works together to solve problems and support one another. His favorite aspect of his role is collaborating with health care professionals to enhance patient care, which gives him a deep sense of purpose. Having been a nurse for 20 years before transitioning to his current role, Burchfield understands the critical impact of technology in delivering high-quality health care.
Burchfield was born in Baton Rouge, LA, and raised in Tylertown, Miss. before calling Hattiesburg his home. He graduated from the Emergency Medical Technician program at Jones College and completed nursing school at Southwest Mississippi Community College. Burchfield’s journey has taken him through various nursing roles across multiple hospitals before bringing him to Hattiesburg Clinic. He describes himself as hardworking, compassionate and funny.
Outside of work, Burchfield enjoys camping, hiking, hunting and fishing, and he has spent the last few years raising chickens and ducks. His passion for mentoring youth is evident in his role as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troops 90B & 90G, where he helps guide young scouts in their development. Burchfield and his wife have been together for 14 years and have three children and one grandson.
Burchfield’s dedication to health care technology, strong work ethic and passion for helping others makes him a valued member of Hattiesburg Clinic.

DB: Learn to fly airplanes or be a train engineer.
