American Heart Association’s Woman of Impact Pine Belt Campaign

We are proud to announce that Anita S. Henderson, MD, with Hattiesburg Clinic The Pediatric Clinic and Katie O’Neal Royals, MD, with Hattiesburg Clinic Orleans Park Family Medicine have been nominated for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Woman of Impact Pine Belt campaign.

The AHA’s Woman of Impact campaign is a dynamic nine-week competition dedicated to raising awareness and funds for women’s heart health. This initiative, part of the Go Red for Women movement, brings together passionate individuals who work to educate, advocate and drive change. The campaign launches annually on National Wear Red Day in February, with nominees forming impact teams to promote heart health awareness, fund lifesaving research and champion policies that support women’s well-being.

At the end of the campaign, nominees who have made the greatest impact and raised the most funds at both the local and national levels are honored as Woman of Impact winners. This campaign underscores that heart health is a lifelong journey and aims to ensure all women have resources and knowledge to protect their hearts.

Dr. Henderson expresses her gratitude saying, “I’m honored to be nominated for the American Heart Association’s Woman of Impact campaign. As a pediatrician in South Mississippi, my passion is ensuring healthy moms and healthy babies. I remain committed to breaking down barriers to care and improving the health of families across our state. When we invest in the health of women, we create stronger communities for generations to come.”

Henderson has been an advocate for maternal and infant health, working alongside the AHA to champion policies that expand postpartum Medicaid coverage and improve health care access in Mississippi. As a past president of the Mississippi American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Henderson remains committed to advancing policies that support women’s health and addressing cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Royals reflects on her nomination stating, “Caring for women is my family’s legacy—one that began with my grandfather, Dr. Ramsay O’Neal, and continued through my uncle and father. Women deserve to be heard, diagnosed and treated, and I am proud to be part of this movement to drive real change. I’m honored to be nominated for the American Heart Association’s Woman of Impact campaign.”

Royals is committed to raising awareness of cardiovascular diseases and advocating for early detection, lifestyle modifications and regular medical check ups. Royals’s campaign is dedicated to closing clinical care gaps and ensuring all women have access to heart health education and resources.

The Woman of Impact campaign goes beyond a competition—it is a movement empowering woman with the knowledge and resources to take control of their heart health. With leaders like Henderson and Royals, the future of women’s cardiovascular health is brighter than ever. Click the links to learn more about how you can support Anita S.
