Cataract Surgery

Hattiesburg Clinic offers a variety of cataract procedures to best meet our patients' needs.

Cataract Surgery Overview

Hattiesburg Clinic’s ophthalmologists encounter many patients who believe that poor vision is a part of the aging process. However, poor vision due to a cataract can be fixed with a simple surgery procedure.

A cataract is a dense, cloudy area that forms in the lens of the eye. Cataracts make your vision appear fuzzy or blurry as if you are looking through a frosty or fogged-up window, or similar to looking through a piece of wax paper or a blurry photo lens. The cloudiness of the lens can vary. You may not be aware that a cataract is present if it is not near the center of the lens.

Cataract surgery is a common, outpatient procedure used to remove the clouded lens of your eye and replace it with a clear artificial lens. The procedure typically takes less than an hour to perform. In the instance where a patient has cataracts in both eyes, surgery will be performed on separate occasions to allow for healing. Our board-certified cataract surgery experts have decades of experience helping patients improve and strengthen their vision. Learn more about our cataract procedures today.

Cataract Procedures

Bladeless Cataract Surgery

Bladeless cataract surgery is an innovative solution for removing cataracts and enhancing vision. The bladeless procedure uses advanced scanning technology to plan and perform the procedure to the exact measurements of your eye. The laser then makes precise micro-incisions, breaks up the cataract and calculates the exact placement of the new lens.

Multi Focal Cataract Surgery

Multifocal cataract surgery uses the same technique as modern cataract surgery, paired with an advanced multi-focal lens. The goal of this procedure is to provide functional vision at different distances to minimize the use of glasses. Multi-focal lens implants are for those who have a cataract that needs to be removed and want to be less dependent on contacts or glasses for far and/or near vision.

Types of this surgery include:

  • TECNIS Multifocal Intraocular Lens
  • TECNIS Symphony Intraocular Lens (multifocal)

Monovision Cataract Surgery

Monovision surgery uses the cataract surgery technique to correct one eye for near vision and one eye for distance vision. Several weeks after the lens is implanted, the brain adapts, allowing the patient to see far and near seamlessly. Monovision is a technique that can also be applied to laser vision correction. The ophthalmologist can perform tests to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure.

Types of this surgery include:

  • TECNIS® Monofocal Intraocular Lens

Additional Procedures We Offer

  • Alcon Acrysof Toric Intraocular Lens
  • TECNIS Symphony Toric Intraocular Lens
  • Panoptix Lens
  • Eyhance Lens
  • Clareon Lens
  • Synergy lenses
