About the Treatment

BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a chronic migraine treatment that is injected to prevent headaches in patients 18 years or older who have chronic headache 15 or more days each month with headaches lasting four or more hours.

What to Expect

BOTOX is a neurotoxic protein that relaxes the muscles when injected. It is most commonly known for the ability to reduce facial wrinkles. To treat chronic migraine, BOTOX is injected into muscles of the forehead, side and back of the head and neck. The injections block the pain signals and minimize the onset of chronic migraine by causing the muscles to relax.

BOTOX treatments are usually given once every three months. Each treatment is a series of multiple injections. Many patients begin to see results within a few days of treatment. With each use, BOTOX continues to reduce the number of headache days each month.
