Athletic Training Overview

At Hattiesburg Clinic, our commitment to providing exceptional care takes us outside the clinic walls and into the community. We offer athletic training services for student-athletes at 26 area schools and junior colleges in our region.

Backed by the resources of Hattiesburg Clinic, our athletic trainers advocate for the health needs of area student-athletes, both on the court or field and off it. They also work with other medical providers, including physicians with Hattiesburg Clinic Orthopaedics, to help care for those experiencing injuries or dealing with the effects of a medical condition.

Understanding Athletic Training

The work of athletic trainers is multifaceted. Not only are they involved in treating acute and chronic injuries and caring for student-athletes who have medical conditions, such as diabetes, but they also serve a vital role in the prevention of many sports-related injuries.

Our certified athletic trainers work alongside physicians to provide a full spectrum of sports-related care, including:

  • Injury diagnosis and treatment
  • On-site injury evaluations during practices and games
  • Preventive services and educational training related to prevention
  • Rehabilitation of injuries

They are trained in lifesaving techniques, including CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators. Their training prepares them to handle emergencies during practices and games, such as asthma attacks, heat stroke, concussions, spine injuries and even sudden cardiac arrest.

Having an athletic trainer on-site allows for an immediate response during an emergency, when minutes matter most.

Our Role in the Community

Hattiesburg Clinic athletic trainers work with coaches, administrators and school district staff throughout our community to lower the risk of preventable injury in young athletes and act quickly in case of an emergency.

Our athletic trainers and sports medicine physicians work together with orthopaedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists to provide a continuum of care for student-athletes in our area. Through our athletic training program, we provide certified athletic trainers at 26 area schools and junior colleges in south Mississippi, including:
