Hall recognized as American Heart Association Woman of Impact
Hattiesburg Clinic is pleased to announce Melanie Keene Hall, MD, with Orleans Park Family Medicine, has been selected as one of the five women to represent the 2023 American Heart Association (AHA) Woman of Impact for the Pine Belt.
Every year, a select group of women are nominated to serve as a Woman of Impact, a program through the AHA designed to raise awareness on women’s heart health. The nominees are tasked to build campaigns focused on inspiring others to support the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission and movement to end heart disease and stroke in women.
In Mississippi, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the #1 cause of death and leads the nation with the highest CVD mortality rate, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.
The Women of Impact strive to innovate ways to ensure women in their community are aware of the risk of heart disease, so that they have a better chance of beating it and taking control of their wellbeing.
“I am very excited to have been chosen as a 2023 American Heart Association Woman of Impact,” Dr. Hall said. “Personally, I have lost multiple family members to heart disease, and I know the significant impact that the AHA has on research and disease prevention in our state.”
“As a primary care physician, it is my job to help prevent and treat acute and chronic illnesses, such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol in order to decrease one’s cardiovascular risks,” she added.
At the end of the campaign, the special group of changemakers are celebrated for the overall impact and funds raised, supporting the AHA’s mission and community.
S.M. “Mark” Borgenelli, MD, FACC, a cardiologist at Hattiesburg Clinic Heart & Vascular, is also being honored at this year’s event, Pine Belt Art for Heart, that is being held on May 4, 2023.
