Hattiesburg Clinic returns as title sponsor for Hattiesburg Half Marathon
Hattiesburg Clinic is proud to once again be the title sponsor for the 2024 Hattiesburg Half Marathon/10k/5k, to be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, in downtown Hattiesburg.
This event, coordinated by the City of Hattiesburg, the Pinebelt Foundation and the United Way of Southeast Mississippi, brings runners from all areas together and benefits seven local Pine Belt charities – The Arc of Southeast Mississippi, The Children’s Center for Communication and Development, Domestic Abuse Family Shelter, DuBard School for Language Disorders, the Family YMCA of Southeast Mississippi, Kuntry Kidz Youth Foundation and Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
Hattiesburg Clinic Chief Executive Officer Bryan N. Batson, MD, shared why the clinic chose to sponsor the marathon.
“Hattiesburg Clinic has been so inspired by and thankful for the work the benefitting organizations do for our family, neighbors and friends,” Batson said. “By acting as the title sponsor of this event, we are continuing to make strides towards helping and supporting the community we’ve called home for over 60 years.”
The Hattiesburg Clinic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine team also participates in the event by working with the City of Hattiesburg and emergency response teams to ensure runner safety, something they have done since the inception of the marathon in 2012.
According to Gary Stroud, MS, LAT, ATC, several physicians and athletic trainers are stationed along the race route during the marathon and are readily available if a runner needs assistance. They also set up a medical tent at the halfway mark of the race and have their mobile athletic training trailer at the finish line.
“Our main goal is to have people in position throughout the race in the event of a medical situation,” Stroud said. “Thankfully, that hasn’t happened, but we are prepared and there to help if it does.”
Hattiesburg Clinic is honored to be a part of such a philanthropic event and look forward to helping raise awareness in the community. With the help of everyone involved, we are making strides towards a better tomorrow for our loved ones, for our community, for our patients… for you.
