    Going Home

The medications used to make you sleep or relax will gradually wear off; however, you need to take the following precautions after your procedure:

    • We recommend you go straight home after you are discharged.
    • A responsible adult needs to be with you for 24 hours.
    • Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery or power tools for the next 24 hours.
    • You may have a sore throat if you had an upper procedure, which would include the scope and camera going through your mouth. You may gargle with warm salt water or use lozenges. This should not last more than 24 to 48 hours.
    • We recommend you start with a soft meal for your first meal. You may progress to a normal diet for your next meal.

In addition to your paper copy, your discharge instructions may be accessed in Iris, Hattiesburg Clinic’s patient portal.

    • Fever temperature of 101 or greater
    • Bleeding, including dark, tarry stools

It is required by Mississippi law that the provider or facility notifies a patient and/or patient’s representative/surrogate of the Hattiesburg Clinic Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Statement of Limitations regarding the Advance Directive/Living Will.

If a patient who is to receive a procedure at ASC presents the staff with an Advance Directive/Living Will, the patient and/or patient representative/surrogate must be advised of the ASC Statement of Limitations, which is based on reasons of conscience.

The Statement of Limitations is: It is the policy of ASC to always resuscitate a patient and transfer that patient to the hospital, in the event of deterioration. The hospital can determine when to implement these elements of the Advanced Directive/Living Will, once the patient and their representative/surrogate notify them of the Advanced Directive/Living Will.

The patient and/or patient representative/surrogate will sign an acknowledgement that they received notice of Advance Directives and ASC Statement of Limitations prior to the procedure.

Patients who disagree with this policy must address the issue with the attending physician/anesthesiologist prior to the signing of the form, acknowledging and understanding of the policy ASC Statement of Limitations regarding the Advance Directive/Living Will.
