Lung Cancer Screening

Hattiesburg Clinic is proud to offer a lung cancer screening program to our community.

Lung Cancer Screening Overview

The lung cancer screening program at Hattiesburg Clinic provides residents with the best chance for early intervention and improved survival outcomes.

Early Detection Saves Lives

If you have a smoking history of 20 years or more, our lung cancer screening program could be the key to a healthier future. Offering more than 1,400 screens annually, we provide low-dose CT scans of the chest for individuals ages 50-80, whether you are a current smoker or have previously smoked.

Since most lung cancers go undetected until they have metastasized to other areas of the body, if you are at risk, scheduling regular screenings is essential for your health. Early detection through our program can identify lung cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages, significantly increasing your chances of a cure.

No Referral Needed – We Are Here to Help

At our lung cancer screening facility, you do not need a referral to get screened. We understand the complexities of health care, which is why we have a dedicated nurse navigator to assist you with insurance and referrals. Unlike many in the area, we specialize in this vital screening service, making Hattiesburg Clinic the go-to choice for lung cancer screening in Mississippi.

What does lung cancer screening entail?

The screening program includes a low-dose CT of the lung to check for abnormalities. If abnormalities are found, you may need a follow-up CT, a PET scan or biopsy. The screening program also includes a discussion of smoking cessation.

Lung Cancer Survival Rates by Stage

  • Stage I: When lung cancer is diagnosed early and confined to the lungs, patients have a 5-year survival rate of 60%.
  • Stage II and III: Lung cancer that has spread beyond the lungs to nearby lymph nodes, decreases survival rate to 33%.
  • Stage IV: Late-stage lung cancer that has spread to distant lymph nodes and other organs has a 5-year survival rate of 9%.
