Carotid Artery Stenosis Symptoms
Although carotid artery disease does not often present symptoms, there are tests (i.e., carotid ultrasound, angiogram, CT scan, etc.,) that can identify this condition. Carotid stenosis is sometimes discovered during imaging tests or procedures for an unrelated condition. This is why it is important to stay up to date on your medical exams and always see a doctor if you have any unusual symptoms or concerns.
If carotid artery disease reaches the point of stroke, an individual may experience the following stroke symptoms:
- Dizziness
- Sudden, severe headache
- Numbness or weakness in the face, arms or legs (typically on one side of the body)
- Drooping on one side of the face
- Vision problems
- Trouble speaking or comprehending
If you believe you have had a stroke, call 911 to receive medical attention right away.
