How are warts treated?
At Hattiesburg Clinic, we treat warts in several ways. Because the severity of warts differs from patient to patient, treatment is situational and depends on several factors. We also like to work with the patient in the best way possible to avoid unnecessary aggressive procedures, which increase the risk of possible scarring.
Common treatment options include:
- Topical Treatments: Over-the-counter treatments, like salicylic acid, are often used to gradually dissolve the wart. This method requires regular application over a period of weeks.
- Cryotherapy: This treatment involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen, causing it to fall off after a few days. It may require multiple sessions.
- Laser Therapy: A laser can be used to burn away the wart tissue. This method is often used for warts that are stubborn or located in sensitive areas.
- Electrosurgery: This technique uses a small electrical current to remove the wart. It is typically performed under local anesthesia.
- Surgical Removal: For larger or more persistent warts, a doctor may choose to surgically remove them.
